Audit software before taking it over.

A difficult-to-maintain project, an application that needs to evolve or an interrupted development: e-neuf examines existing software to identify risks, prioritise useful fixes and prepare a gradual takeover.

Let’s discuss it

Understand what is blocking progress

The aim is to distinguish symptoms from causes: fragile installation, recurring incidents, dependencies that are difficult to update, undocumented business rules or delivery problems. We start with expected workflows and observable issues, using access appropriate to the agreed scope.

Findings and priorities

The audit aims to provide an understandable assessment of issues, impacts, uncertainties and prioritised actions. Recommendations separate urgent fixes from work that can wait. Their depth depends on the code, documentation and environments available for inspection.

Prepare a gradual takeover

Before changing a feature, we look for a way to verify its current behaviour. Fixes stay within a defined scope and receive appropriate checks. Documentation should make it possible to recover decisions and continue work without relying entirely on a developer’s memory.

Keep, adapt or rebuild?

A complete rewrite is not an automatic conclusion. The decision depends on reliability, risks, adaptation costs and expected use. An audit is not a certification or a guarantee that no defects remain; its limits need to be explicit.

Questions before starting

Is production access required?

Not systematically. Work can start with code, documentation and a test environment. Additional access depends on the planned checks and should be limited to the need.

Can we commission an audit without the follow-up development?

The assessment and recommendations are deliverables to define in the quotation. They should help you decide what comes next and organise fixes.

Can you work with an existing technology choice?

The existing environment is reviewed before committing. I explain what can be taken on, the constraints and areas requiring further investigation rather than assuming every takeover is immediate.
